There are hundreds of thousands of different fondant tools, moulds, cutters, smoothers & other cool looking things out there these days that make cake decorating easier & faster. IF you enter a shop that sells or specialises in baking equipment (or browse the Internet) you may end up spending a fortune on these fancy looking items. And I know what I am talking about. I love them too. And truth to be told I would love to have most of them. But are they really necessary? Will I use them more than once? Could I use something else (a cheaper alternative) instead? I think that the important thing is to prioritize. Think before buying. However I must admit, there are some items that I believe are a must when starting this cake decorating hobby. And one of the MUSTS are cake modelling tools.
These days you can buy them pretty cheap and even the good quality ones are mostly sold at a reasonable price. I got mine over the Internet a few years back. They were the cheaper version and I was and still am pretty happy with them. Later on, I got another set as a gift. This set was a bit different from the one I bought. There were some extra tools like the tiny stitching & wheel tool which I did not have in my set. However, this set seemed to be the cheaper version too, and some tools were not finished off properly so bear in mind that this may be the case with some of them. So I suggest you think what you need and what you need it for. Maybe you need only a specific tool for a specific project. Well, some places sell them by pieces as well. However, these tend to be quite expensive so again HAVE A LOOK AROUND.DO THE RESEARCH FIRST AND THEN BUY. Also the sets vary a bit so make sure you get what you need!
