Edible Christmas gift have become quite popular and I think they are pretty cool. Christmas is not about buying expensive gifts, it’s about spending time with your loved ones. And what better way to show someone you care by making these festive cupcake toppers?
I love Christmas tree baubles. These days you can buy really beautiful ones and they can be made of anything really – plastic, glass, wood, ceramics, metal… I think that the glass ones are the real deal! My grandmother still has some that are more than 30 years old. You can see the glass has aged, it is not so shiny anymore and some inside cracks are also visible. But they are still there, every year they hanging there alongside with other, newer, and probably cheaper ornaments mostly made of plastic or some other long lasting material.
I have to admit, I don’t have any baubles on my Christmas tree. I bought a set of brownish baubles a few years back, but had already given them away. What I am trying to do is to make all decorations by hand – but as I will be traveling home for Christmas I am going to postpone this project to next year.
But because there must be some baubles during Christmas I made these cute Christmas baubles cupcake toppers! They are easy to make and are definitely a great gift idea! Watch this video to see how to make cupcake toppers for your next DIY Christmas gift project!
What I used to make these festive cupcake toppers:
- Rolling Pin
- Icing Sugar for Dusting
- Round Cookie Cutter
- Plunger Cutter – Snow Flake
- Edible Black Marker
- Golden Dust Color
- Paint Brush
- Sharp Point Tool
- Tiny Christmas Tree Cookie Cutter
- A few Drops of Alcohol (e.g. Vodka)
If you don’t have one you can use any bottle as long as it’s clean and has no label on it.
Icing sugar can be easily substituted for corn flour.
Round Cookie Cutter
Try to find a glass or a jar that is roughly the same size as your cupcakes. These can give you rough edges but you can smooth them with your fingers.
Use any Christmas themed cutters you have at home if you don’t have the snowflake one.
To get the real bauble shape, put more frosting/icing in the middle and then cover with fondant circle.
