Double Chocolate Oatmeal

Could you say no to a bowl of double chocolate oatmeal? I couldn’t and wouldn’t.

Using rolled oats means that the cooking time is pretty quick and you are done and ready to serve this double chocolate oatmeal in about 10 minutes.

If you feel that 10 minutes is still way too long to include into your morning schedule, what about making Chocolate Chip Overnight Oats or Mango Overnight Oats instead?

How to make double chocolate oatmeal

The prep takes about a minute or two and the cooking somewhere between 5 and 7 minutes depending on how you like your oatmeal.

In a pot, combine water, milk, salt and oats. Bring it to a boil, add cocoa powder and reduce the heat to low. Stir constantly for 5-7 minutes or until you are happy with its consistency.

Step by Step How to Make Double Chocolate Oatmeal

Turn off the heat and stir in maple syrup. I usually add 4 tablespoons but you can add less or more. This is entirely up to you as everyone likes something else. At last stir in the chocolate chips.

Divide into 2 bowls and top with strawberries. Again, how much strawberries you add is up to you.

What else can I use to top this double chocolate oatmeal?

Choice of toppings is entirely up to you but berries go really well with this double chocolate oatmeal. My most favorites are strawberries. Banana is also a great choice and makes your breakfast oatmeal more filling.

Chopped nuts such pecans, walnuts or hazelnuts will make you feel full longer. Chia seeds or sunflower seeds are also an option.

You can also add your favorite dried fruits.

Useful tips for making double chocolate oatmeal

  • Cocoa powder – you can use either Dutch processed or natural cocoa powder in this recipe.
  • Make sure to use a wide-bottomed pot for faster cooking.
  • The cooking time may vary. This will depend on how thick you like your oatmeal. I like to turn off the heat after 7 minutes, cover the pot with a lid and let it sit for 1 or 2 minutes before serving.
  • Maple syrup can be substituted with honey.
