Iced Caramel Latte

This iced caramel latte is what I make when I want something cold and sweet without using an espresso machine. I use instant coffee, whole milk, cold water and caramel sauce, shake everything in a jar and pour it over ice. With the ingredients ready, it takes about a minute.

I have used both instant espresso powder and regular instant coffee here, so use whichever one you already enjoy. I also like to squeeze a little caramel around the inside of the glass. It looks especially nice in a tall tumbler, but any glass will do.

How to make an iced caramel latte with instant coffee
Pour the whole milk, cold water, 2 tablespoons of caramel sauce, instant coffee and vanilla into a jar. Close it with a lid and shake well until the coffee has dissolved.
To make it extra frothy, use an immersion blender or electric milk frother if you have one.
Add a few large ice cubes to a glass. Squeeze the remaining tablespoon of caramel sauce around the inside, then pour in the latte.
Serve right away.

Tips for making this iced caramel latte
- Coffee: Use instant coffee granules, not ground coffee, since ground coffee will not dissolve in the cold liquid. Any instant coffee you enjoy will work.
- Caramel: Use a pourable caramel sauce. Mine is thick enough to cling to the glass but still loose enough to mix into the latte. A very thick dessert caramel may not dissolve as easily.
- Sweetness: The standard drink uses 2 tablespoons of caramel in the latte and 1 tablespoon around the glass. For a less sweet drink, cut back on the caramel around the glass first.
- Ice: I always use large ice cubes because they melt more slowly. Crushed ice and small cubes water the drink down faster.
- Vanilla: It is optional. Leave it out if you do not have any, or add a little more when you want the vanilla to stand out.
- Espresso alternative: You can use cooled brewed espresso instead, but the recipe card below is written for instant coffee and does not require a machine.
For a plain version without caramel, try my 1-minute instant iced coffee.

Notes
- Use a pourable caramel sauce that is loose enough to mix into the cold drink. For a less sweet latte, use less around the glass.
- Use instant espresso powder or instant coffee granules, not ground coffee. Instant espresso will give the latte a stronger coffee flavor, but use whichever instant coffee you enjoy.
- Large ice cubes melt more slowly and dilute the latte less than crushed ice or small cubes.
- Serving size: This recipe makes 1 drink when served in a tall 10-ounce (300 ml) glass over 2 to 3 large ice cubes.
