Frequently asked questions
These are delicious on their own as a snack but also go well with light salads and creamy soups.
We often serve them with broccoli and celery soup or roasted carrot soup but the options are limitless.
Yes, you can.
Keep them in an airtight container on your counter. Make sure they are cooled down completely before storing them.
They should last up to 3-4 days when stored properly.
Absolutely! These crunchy breadsticks can be frozen after being baked. They only take 20 minutes to thaw!
Julia’s tips:
Puff pastry – Either pre-rolled chilled or frozen (needs to be thawed first) will work. What you use is up to you. I recommend choosing the one you have experience working with.
Seeds – Use anything you like. Pepitas/pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, poppy seeds or chia will also work great. Whole or ground caraway seeds are also an option.
Baking – I have noticed that these breadsticks don’t do well when the oven is way too hot. And while most of our puff pastry recipes are baked in the oven at 350 Fahrenheit (180 Celsius), this is a little exception. They are ready when they puff up nicely, but they can go from pale to dark brown quickly so keep an eye on them!
More recipes with puff pastry:
- Mango chicken puffs – One of the best puff pastry appetizers that can be easily prepared in advance! Whenever I make them, they disappear first from the table.
- Apple strudel – An easy twist on this classic German dessert.
- Ham and cheese pastries – Perfect for kids’ lunch box, breakfast or brunch!
- Savory palmiers – Simple to prepare and bursting with unique flavor!

Sweet Chili Puff Pastry Breadsticks
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry (ready-rolled, 10 ounces/275 grams), see note 1
- ¼ cup sweet chili sauce (70 grams), see note 2
- 3 tablespoons seeds of your choice (chopped), see note 3
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 Fahrenheit (180 Celsius).
- Unfold the pastry sheet. When using frozen (thawed) pastry, roll it out thin.
- Spread sweet chili sauce over. Place the sheet on your worktop and cut it in half. With a knife or pizza cutter, cut each half in ½-inch (1.5-centimeter) strips.
- Sprinkle with chopped seeds and transfer individually on a baking tray lined with baking paper or silicone mat.
- Bake in a preheated oven for about 15 minutes or until they are nicely puffed.
- Take out, cool down and enjoy!
Notes
- Either chilled ready-rolled or frozen pastry will work. When using frozen pastry, you will have to thaw it first. For that, follow the package instructions.
- ¼ cup is 5 tablespoons.
- I like using a combo of pumpkin seeds/pepitas and sunflower seeds. Poppy seeds or chia can also be used.
- These are freezer-friendly: Cool them down, pop them into a freezer-friendly bag and freeze.
- Make ahead: Simply cool them down, transfer into an airtight container and keep on your kitchen counter for 2-3 days.
These look like the perfect snack and great for dipping.
