Start with crisp apple slices, add a layer of creamy peanut butter, sprinkle on granola and you’ve already got a winning combo. From there, you can keep it classic or play around with different toppings for something new every time.

You can even turn them into little “sandwiches” by adding another apple slice on top (spread with a thin layer of peanut butter first).

If you prefer apples without the skin, go ahead and peel them first. They will still hold up nicely with the toppings.

Optional toppings

  • Chocolate hazelnut spread – homemade or store-bought, both work.
  • Almond butter – try it on one slice first if you’re unsure.
  • Chocolate chips.
  • Coconut flakes.
  • Seeds.
  • Dried fruits – small in size like raisins or cranberries.
  • Fresh berries.
  • A dash of cinnamon.

Useful tips

Granola adds extra crunch, but you can also swap it for seeds, coconut flakes or chocolate chips.

The fun part is mixing familiar toppings with something new. Start with what you know you will love, then add one slice with a topping you have never tried. Sometimes the unexpected combos turn out the best.

Other snack ideas

You can also swap the apple for a banana. Slice it in half lengthwise and spread with peanut butter, or make these peanut butter banana roll-ups. They are quick, filling and a nice change from plain bananas.

Or what about making peanut butter brownies? They are so good! Once you try them yourself, you will love them! They are rich, so a small piece goes a long way.

Chocolate-covered dates are an absolute treat and I can’t express how good they are. Especially when enjoyed right from the freezer. They are easy to make and can be prepped ahead and kept in the freezer. I highly recommend them to anyone!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Wash the apple thoroughly under warm running water. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel. Cut it into thin slices and using a small cookie cutter or piping tip, cut out the core from each slice.
  • Top with peanut butter and granola.

Notes

  1. Use any apples you have on hand.
  2. You don’t need to use a lot, but if you like it, then add as much as you wish. Also, it does not matter if it is creamy or crunchy. Peanut butter can also be substituted with chocolate hazelnut spread.
  3. If you don’t have granola on hand, use crushed nuts and raisins or dried cranberries.
  4. Tip: Feel free to peel the apple if you prefer it without.
